Where to stay while in Reykjavik, ERIC THE RED

Eric the Red is BY FAR the best guesthouse I have ever stayed in, Not only in Iceland but anywhere!

While in Reykjavik, I suggest you skip the hotels and do yourself a favor by staying in THIS guesthouse, Eric the Red.

Edda and her husband Runar own and run this guesthouse and they do an AMAZING job!  Though Runar was away on a ski trip during our stay and I only had the pleasure of meeting him on my last day in Iceland, I can say that Edda was more than enough hostess for our 4 days there.

Edda was seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met in my entire life,  she made us feel like family during our stay and we were never uncomfortable asking her for advice regarding what to do around the city.  She was extremely helpful and generous.  Going out of her way to make us feel at home.
The breakfasts were ready at the perfect time(not too early, not too late) and delicious every morning.

They included:
Delicious oatmeal with a myriad of additions such as raisins, brown sugar, etc.
Fresh, homemade bread
Hard boiled eggs
Several cheeses & meats
Jams, peanut butter
Juice, coffee, tea and much more

Edda was very courteous of people plans and very helpful beyond what is expected of a guesthouse host.  She gave us weather reports, directions, dining suggestions and literally the clothes off her back.  Two of the girls in my group weren’t warm enough and she let one borrow gloves and the other a VERY NICE and expensive 66 North jacket for the duration of our trip, even AFTER we left her guest house to go along the ring road around the island.   We returned it on the last day upon our return to Reykjavik and thanked her for letting us borrow it.  My best friend would not have survived the wind and snow without that jacket for the duration of our trip.  Edda is hands down the “hostess with the mostess”! 😉

Aside from the 5 star service, the rooms were VERY clean and supplied all of our needs.  Comfortable beds, warm showers and enough plug ins to charge all of our electronics.

The location of this guesthouse is also one of the best in the city!!!  Located literally across the street from Hallgrímskirkja, the tallest building and MAJOR tourist attraction in Reykjavik.  Being next to the tallest building in Reykjavik also made finding our way back “home” SUPER easy during our stay.  Plus it is also walking distance to all of the shopping and dining location in Reykjavik.  I couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay while in Reykjavik.  Unfortunately, she was booked up on our final night in Reykjavik, after we had completed our road trip around the island. So on our final night, we decided to splurge and stayed in a pricey, upscale hotel.  I can honestly say I would have rather stayed at Eric the Red again, hands down.  Proof that paying top dollar doesn’t always mean you will have the best experience and vice versa.

While in Reykjavik, you MUST STAY HERE, you will NOT regret it.  Tell Edda that Hilda says HELLO please!!!

Be sure to also check out their website, which is linked throughout this post.  They offer much more than accommodations! 😀  You can also CLICK HERE ——-> Eric the Red Guesthouse

You can’t be in Iceland without listening to a little Bjork.  Edda had one of her very first CD’s and she played it during breakfast one morning.  Oh was I ever a happy girl!!!
